Gawj formed in 2005 and originally went under the name Upsett and consisted of Gabe on Guitar/Vocals, Dane on Bass/Vocals and Sean on Drums. This line up played a few shows including support to Schifosi from Melbourne, Australia. Inspired by a slew of influences from Japan and Sweden and a love of fast cacophonous noise Gawj are not easy on the ear. We play fast and ugly and preferably from behind a wall of distortion and feedback. Punk with sharp edges sums us up.

We tried out a few vocalist's but settled on Glenn. This line up stayed constant for a while and we also added James on second Guitar. Glenn was eventually replaced on Vocals by Kaleb from Atavistic. We played a fair few shows in 2006-7. This line up played it's last gig at the mighty "Final Solution" in September of 2007.
Due to work and family commitments Gabe left and James also decided to move to Auckland so we enlisted two new Guitarists in the guise of Zane and Brad from Congaline.

The current line up has rewritten our entire set with only three songs retained from the old Gawj. Things are sounding good and new recordings have just been finished and will be available here soon.
